Frederick County
Partnerships Power Career Pathways in Public Safety
Through a strong partnership with Frederick County Government, Frederick County
Public Schools expanded access to high-quality CTE despite rapid enrollment growth
and budget constraints. Beginning in the 2024325 school year, students from all ten
FCPS high schools can complete a Firefighter Program of Study hosted by the
Frederick County Division of Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services at the County Public
Safety Training Facility4at no cost to the school system. Students earn industryrecognized credentials, including Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Operations,
Emergency Medical Response, and firefighter safety certifications, while gaining
authentic work-based learning experience at their local fire stations. The program
culminated in FCPS’s first CTE Firefighter graduation ceremony, where ten seniors were
honored alongside county leaders, highlighting how cross-agency collaboration can
expand life-saving career pathways and strengthen the local workforce.
