Tuning into Talent: A Student's Apprenticeship at WHCP
When Shamara Cephas began her journey in interactive media at the Dorchester
Career & Technology Center, she immediately stood out for her creativity and curiosity.
The program introduced her to the work of digital storytelling, broadcasting, and media
production-a perfect match for her interests and talents. When the program sunset,
Dorchester Career & Technology Center staff partnered with WHCP Radio to create a
tailored apprenticeship for the talented media student, including hosting her own
show. This experience-built confidence, technical skills, and college-level readiness.

shared resources, and used Perkins funding to purchase
targeted instructional materials, preparing students for this
rigorous biotechnology credential, which has a national
pass rate of 63%. Students who had previously completed
the BioMed pathway, as well as those currently on track to
complete it, opted to take the exam.
